don’t make this common mistake with goal-setting

Jan 13, 2022

One of my intentions this year is to have a better relationship with my work.

Like most entrepreneurs and leaders, I’ve historically spent a fuckton of time stressed about work.

But in 2022, I’m done with that.

I’m done worrying about:

how much money we’re making (it’s always enough)
how many clients we have (more than I could’ve ever dreamed of)
how the launch is going (lol, ok, this one depends on the launch)

Instead, I want to focus on how I feel.

I want to feel successful, no matter what’s on my P&Ls.

I want to feel proud of myself even when things tank.

I want to feel at peace & feel solid in the truth that my business will be more than alright.

Because to be honest, here’s what I found to be true for my personal life and the lives of my clients:

That quantitative goal of yours, it doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter if:

you make all the money.
you have all of the clients.
launch after launch goes flawlessly.

If you don’t fix the foundational feelings and you don’t resolve the foundational trauma that make today feel like it’s not enough, no matter what you do, it’s never going to feel up to snuff.

You’re always going to feel a little bit like you should be making/doing “more”, or like you might mess things up, or maybe you’ll just be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

(I really hate that last one.)

This is why I always tell my 1:1 and group coaching clients, “I don’t care about what you do – I care about what you feel.”

Yes, I want you to hit your goals.

Yes, I want you to have it all.

And – I want you to feel good right now and enjoy the process along the way.  (I promise, it’s possible.)

So with that, I have a question for you.

What are your intentions for your business and your leadership this year?

Outside of the number goals, what do you actually want?

If sales, clients, etc. are the top of your mind, I want to know: What will that number give you? What’s the thing you’re seeking with that number?

Because let’s be honest, your quantitative goals aren’t really about the numbers.

The numbers are about the feelings and tangible things that they’ll provide.

Perhaps, this year, you could just aim for the thing that you actually want instead of stressing out over a number that isn’t going to actually make you happy. Just saying.

Let’s dream together – hit reply and let me know what your intentions for the year are, so I can hold the vision of your greatness with you.

xx,
Gieselle
