i’ve changed

Feb 2, 2021

Let’s grab our favorite tea, find the comfiest chair in our house, and have a little chat, shall we?

This week, I want to chat about values and intentionality.

Because imma be honest honey, I’m still figuring out my space with them.

Now, if you met me in the summer of 2020, you’d have probably seen a Gieselle who was a bit different from the Gieselle of January 2021.

That Gieselle was a messy bitch and with reason.

My decolonizing process was to reject perfection, to reject the ‘right way’ to do things. I was intentionally unpolished and was fucking tired of the ‘pretend everything is perfect’ mindset. (Many of you remember may remember me eating bowls of cereal during webinars when I was hungry, ‘webinar etiquette’ be damned….lol)

That was my decolonized expression. And that summer, I worked extremely hard on rejecting capitalist ideals and carving my own identity.

But somewhere down the line, my priorities changed.

Now, I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. As I focused my attention on different aspects of my business, I moved a bit from that initial ‘messy’ decolonization instinct that was so important to me.

Why? Because when I wasn’t focusing on it, my natural socialization kicked in.

That socialization still says that I need to be a certain way for people to want to be with me. That I can be authentic, but only to a certain extent.

That’s what happens when you aren’t being super focused on your values – they may creep in the exact opposite direction of what you desire.

While values are the epicenter for everything you do, especially in your business, I’ve realized that just knowing your values isn’t enough.

You need to constantly put intention and thought into them and reassess your relationship with them as often as possible.

If you’re not paying attention to your values, you might just end up veering in the opposite direction, like I was in the danger of doing.

So today, I want you to take out your journal and write down the core values you started your business with. How is your relationship with them today? What’s changed? How far away from them are you?

Let’s move towards a 2021 where we stick to our values and intentionality.

Until next time,

Gieselle
