what I learned from taking too many magic mushrooms

May 11, 2021

I (kind of) accidentally had too many magic mushrooms the other week 🤣

That’s a story for another day, but I’m glad I did, because the medicine of the mushrooms gave me some really beautiful clarity.

I was lying in my husband’s arms, and in his embrace, I could feel our love and connection so clearly.

It was so simple, so pure.

Suddenly, I got a message that has stuck with me ever since:

This love is easy. It’s all the other external bullshit that can make relationships feel hard.

That moment has really changed the way I look at my marriage, and I also think it relates to you, too.

If you’re in my world, I know you have a revolutionary vision both for yourself, and the world.

You feel it pulsing inside of you, craving to be brought to life every single day.

It calls out for you – because you’re the one who is meant to bring it to the world.

That revolutionary vision, like my love for my husband, is simple.

When you sit with it, listen to it, and connect with it, you know your revolutionary vision, and how you want to make it a reality.

But let’s be honest, that’s not how you feel on most days.

Most days, you feel confused as fuck. What the fuck do you actually want to do? Do you really have what it takes to make it happen?  How the fuck do you make your vision a reality? Are you crazy?

The thoughts swirl in your head constantly like a big, confusing mess.

So, here’s the million dollar question:

If your revolutionary vision is simple, why does it feel so confusing and hard so often?

The answer is white supremacy culture. (It’s always fucking white supremacy culture, lol.)

White supremacy culture convinces you that:

  • Someone “like you” doesn’t have what it takes (and the person who does have what it takes is always whiter, thinner, with more experience than you.)
  • It’s dangerous and crazy to go against the status quo, because if you do, you’ll be broke, and your family will disown you
  • You need an “expert” to tell you how to make your revolutionary vision a reality, because if you don’t do it right, you’ll fail.

It’s no wonder that you constantly feel like you don’t “know” your revolutionary vision, or how to make it actually come true…

…because you’re surrounded by a white supremacist culture whose sole purpose is to keep power with old, white men (sometimes white women when they’re feeling generous) and whose other function is to gaslight and discourage BIPOC who dare to go against the norm.

If you’re ready to let this external, white supremacist bullshit go there are three main things you need to do:

  • Notice the external, white supremacist stories that make you feel confused or fearful about making your revolutionary vision a reality

I know it seems simple, but even just building awareness of these unhelpful stories gives them less power, because it makes them feel less like fundamental truths, and more like the annoying bullshit they are.

  • Acknowledge (and heal) the trauma that makes you feel like going against the white supremacist norms, and listening to your intuition are dangerous and unsafe

This one isn’t an overnight fix by a long shot – but even just acknowledging that you have been harmed and that there is real trauma living in your body from living in a white supremacist world can support you in being kinder and more understanding to your nervous system’s needs.

  • Begin listening to your revolutionary vision and intuition

Your revolutionary is alive and has a voice that’s begging to be heard – you just have to slow down and listen. Set tiny blocks of time where your only job is to get quiet and  connect to your vision.

The more you connect with the truth, ease, and power of your revolutionary vision…

… the more you’ll listen to your vision’s wisdom first, and the more you’ll ignore the nonsense of our white supremacist world.

I’ll be honest, though – restoring that connection isn’t easy.

You need to:

create time and space to just be

learn how to be in, and listen, to your body

mark the white supremacist noise as unhelpful

help your body feel safe listening to itself over the prevailing stories that white supremacy and capitalism want us to believe.

When you do, you’ll be able to move mountains, change your community beyond your wildest dreams, and make your revolutionary vision come true faster, with more ease, and more joy than you ever thought was possible.

I know because I’ve done it, and my clients do it all the time too.
